Audience and Purpose

Purpose for short films, for which we discovered much in our research, comes in three main forms:

• Experimentation
• Showcasing abilities
• Education

Our group feels that we could make several good short film synopses with the basis of an educational film, not necessarily outright education in most respects, but to relay a message to the audience, through what we hope to achieve, is through humour. 

Our best possible target we feel will be within our age range of about 15+ students, as this demographic generally are susceptible to messages conveyed in films. Such messages that we have discussed already could be "constant revision won't always get the best results. Don't over do yourself" or even something as simple as to "think of the less fortunate". Stuff like these are typically done in a "cheesy" manor and so our aim if we decide to take this route is to keep ideas fresh and original, which will require some thought to develop these ideas in order to make them good enough to make into a possible 5 minute short film. 

Some ideas of that bat that we have discussed for this could be a short film that gives the interpretations of events from certain viewpoints of certain people e.g. A child's point of view and an Adults point of view. A perfect way we thought to express this example is the way graffiti is perceived by different groups, children will most likely admire the art that is being made by the people, whereas typically an adult will describe graffiti as a crime and is vandalism to people property. we fell that this will achieve a sense of creativity as it will highlight the different views of different demographics but can be suitable for both audiences, as it educates the different age groups on what they see when it comes to different things, and the different possible feelings that the different audiences gain from it. Graffiti is a great way to express this we feel.

We feel that this specific audience will narrow down the idea that we can deal with and make successful because themes that we can deal with are themes we deal with ourselves and so can be related to our general age group. The idea of being able to educate different age groups at the same time is very alluring as it opens up our demographic to many audiences.
