Veronique By Patrik Bergh (2002)

The film "Veronique" is a British Teen Romantic Film being produced and written by Patrik Bergh.  The purpose of the film was for entertainment measures but also for self-promotion to try and get himself known to be able to do more things. The film is about a teenager who through the voice over is talking to his friend about the girl called "Veronique" who he meets on the bus every day on the school week on his way to school denoted by his red school uniform and the longshot of his school at the end of the film. The films narrative is quite interesting in this film which whilst the boy is speaking of a past event we are also given the clip of the past events. The use of a voice over is effective in this film. It presents the audience a contrast in what the boy is saying to what actually happens; in a way it is fantasy vs reality. The boy tells his friend that he meets Veronique on the bus and she smiles to him but through the film we can clearly see that this is not so. The Veronique character does not even acknowledge him. The theme of this film could be said of one of a teen romance or a teen crush. The boy instantly falls in love with her but then after "losing" her gets over her and will probably move on to someone else. In a way it is the stereotypical view of a teenager where they will always find a new crush after their previous one.

The use of the contrasting narrative is also an idea that could be used in the groups film being a very effective way of getting a particular point across or if someone was lying about a certain event. Again in terms of educating people, this might be one way to do it if the film was headed that way.

The use of the titles is quite different to that of the previous clips that were analysed. Whilst films such as "Coming of Age" feature titles at the beginning and the end, "Veronique" features titles throughout with the majority being that of the names of the week such as "Monday". It is through the use of the titles where we start to see a contrast in the days. On Monday the weather is gloomy, and rainy but with the arrival the boys world slows down with the appearance of "Veronique". The score at this point despite the bad weather goes to one of soft romantic piece as the boy is stunned by her. The fact that the girls appearance is all red only makes her stand out more compared to the others on the bus making it known that she is not your everyday girl according to the boy.

The next day on Tuesday the score changes once again. With the girl being from Paris, France the score goes to one of a french romantic type of music. "Veronique" through the boys voice over is shown as being stylish, romantic and passionate only leaving because of a movie deal which she couldn't bear to be without the boy. This is a stereotype of the French who are shown as lively and being contrastly more romantic than that of the British people. The Circular narrative is also key to the attitude of teenagers where the boy starts off alone and then ends up alone after the week further showing the "love" he had for her was not present.

Again the film ends with an unresolved ending and a plot twist with the girl moving away. Therefore from analysing the other films it is clear to say that this is a common trait that is present in a lot of short films. Therefore, when the film is being produced our group will have to ensure that we do both of these.
